The A’s have signed 27-year old righty swinging 1B Tommy Everidge to a minor league deal. He has played in 95 games in AAA-ball with the Mariners & Astros this year and he is 90 of 360 (.250 avg, .733 OPS) with 45 runs scored, 12 homers and 50 RBIs. Everidge’s only made league experience came with the A’s in 2009. He played in 24 games for the A’s last year and he was 19 of 85 (.224 avg, .667 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 2 homers and 7 RBIs.

The Oakland Athletics have to be pleased with Coco Crisp

Blogged under General, Front Page, Playing Well, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Tuesday 31 August 2010 at 7:59 am

30-year old switching hitting CF Coco Crisp started this season pretty late due to nagging injuries but he’s trying to make up for lost time. Crisp has played in 57 games for the A’s this year and he is 62 of 226 (.274 avg, .774 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 6 homers, 29 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. He’s also playing very solid defense for the A’s in CF. It’s no surprise that the A’s are hanging in there in the A.L. West as Crisp is a big reason for that.

The Oakland Athletics are developing a new “Big Three” in the starting rotation

Blogged under General, Front Page, Throwing Well, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Thursday 26 August 2010 at 9:25 am

The last time the A’s were truly relevant was back when they had Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito heading the starting rotation. While all of those guys were great pitchers they didn’t have arms like Trevor Cahill, Gio Gonzalez and Brett Anderson. Look out for the A’s in the next few years if their new “Big Three” continue to improve. 22-year old righty Trevor Cahill started this season in the minors but that didn’t matter as he made the All-Star Team. Cahill has started 23 games for the A’s this year and he is 14-5 with a 2.43 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. He has only given up 110 hits in 155 2/3 innings so far this season as he has been flat out incredible. 24-year old Gio Gonzalez bounced around in trades for quite a while because a lot of teams fell in love with his upside. This is the season that it’s all starting to come together for the A’s. Gonzalez has started 26 games for the A’s this year and he is 11-8 with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He has only given up 134 hits while whiffing 134 batters this season in 161 innings pitched which shows what kind of stuff he has. He still needs to tighten up his control a tad as he has walked 71 batters this year but that’s nitpicking. 22-year old Brett Anderson has the potential to be the A’s ace if he can just stay healthy. Anderson has started 11 games for the A’s this year and he is 3-4 with a 2.86 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He has whiffed 47 batters in 63 innings this season while only walking 10 batters as he has been flat out nasty for the A’s this year. Look out for this team in the very near future if they ever find any hitting.

The Oakland Athletics place Conor Jackson on the D.L.

Blogged under General, Front Page, Injuries, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 21 August 2010 at 11:40 am

The A’s have placed 1B/OF Conor Jackson on the 15-day disabled list with a sports hernia which could require season ending surgery. Jackson has played in 18 games for the A’s this year and he is 13 of 57 (.228 avg, .678 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer, 5 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The A’s have called up Jeff Larish to replace him on the active roster. Larish played in 1 game earlier this year for the A’s and he was 0 for 3 (.000 avg).

The Oakland Athletics send Chris Carter to AAA

Blogged under General, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Tuesday 17 August 2010 at 11:15 pm

23-year old righty swinging LF/1B Chris Carter is one of the best prospects the A’s have but they have sent him to AAA. Conor Jackson was activated off the D.L. to take his place. Carter was clearly overmatched by making league pitching in his brief stay with the A’s. He played in 6 games for the A’s and he was 0 for 19 (.000 avg, .050 OPS) with 1 walk and 9 whiffs. The A’s might give Carter another chance when rosters expand on September 1st if he plays well in the minors the next couple of weeks.
