The Oakland Athletics place Eric Chavez on the D.L.
The Oakland A’s have placed Eric Chavez on the 15-day disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation. Chavez has played in 23 games this season for the A’s and he is 22 for 89 (.247 avg, .688 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 2 homers and 14 RBIs. Chavez fears that he might need surgery on his shoulder again which could cause him to miss most of the 2008 season. The A’s have recalled 24-year old righty swinging 1B Wes Bankston from AAA ball. He has played in 70 games this season in AAA and he was 74 for 269 (.275 avg, .807 OPS) with 41 runs scored, 14 homers and 51 RBIs.
