The A’s have placed righty reliever Keith Foulke on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. Foulke has pitched pretty well for the A’s when he has been healthy this season. Foulke has pitched in 26 games out of the bullpen for the A’s this season and he is 0-3 with 1 save, a 3.81 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. The A’s have recalled 24-year old lefty reliever Jerry Blevins to replace Foulke in the bullpen. Blevins has pitched in 28 games (0 starts) in AAA ball this season and he is 2-2 with 10 saves, a 2.78 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He has been throwing a lot of strikes in the minors this season as he has whiffed 36 batters while only walking 6 in 32.1 AAA innings. It will be interesting to see if Blevins has learned anything or not from the beating he took in his brief appearance in the majors last season. He pitched in 6 games for the A’s last year and he was 0-1 with a 9.64 ERA and a 2.14 WHIP.
