Daric Barton is running out of time as the starting 1B of the Oakland Athletics
Daric Barton was one of the key pieces in the Mark Mulder trade a couple of years ago and the A’s had high hopes for him. After a blistering September for the A’s last season they penciled him in as the starter at 1B for 2008 but he has really disappointed them. Barton has played in 81 games for the A’s this season and he is 58 for 259 (.224 avg, .643 OPS) with 34 runs scored, 3 homers and 24 RBIs. Barton is running out of chances for the A’s this season who are contending for the American League West Division. With that in mind the A’s have recalled Wes Bankston and he’s off to a good start cutting into Barton’s playing time. The A’s might also look to add a 1B in trade if Barton or Bankston aren’t giving them enough production out of the position soon.
