The Oakland Athletics place OF Ryan Sweeney on the D.L.
The Oakland A’s have placed outfielder Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right thumb. Sweeney has played in 88 games for the A’s this season and he is 83 for 289 (.287 avg, .713 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 4 homers, 37 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. The A’s have recalled Eric Patterson to replace Sweeney on the roster and in the outfield. Patterson has played in 4 games for the A’s this season and he is 1 for 12 (.083 avg, .396 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Patterson has now played in 17 games in the majors this season (Cubs and A’s) and he is 10 for 50 (.200 avg) with 7 runs scored, 1 homer, 9 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Look for Patterson to play much better this time around for the A’s as he should get to play more. Still, Sweeney has been one of the very few solid players on the A’s this season so they will miss him some.
