The Oakland A’s have claimed infielder Joe Dillon off waivers from the Brewers. Dillon played in 56 games for the Brewers last season and he was 16 for 75 (.213 avg, .630 OPS) with 1 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs. The 33-year old righty swinging Dillon has now played in 122 games in his major league career and he is 48 for 187 (.257 avg, .709 OPS) with 31 runs scored, 2 homers and 17 RBIs. This was the kind of risk that Billy Beane loves to take as Dillon always has put up good minor league numbers just like Jack Cust used to. He might just need a chance to show what he can do with some at bats and he might get them with the A’s in 2009.
